Peter Brunner - Locarno 79

 Spotlight on “Down the Arm of God” at the 79th Locarno Film Festival. This is a powerful feature film exploring homelessness in Texas. The Austrian director Peter Brunner and  Caleb Landry Jones spent years with homeless people in order to understand their struggles: the voices of the homeless form the heart of this film. A young pastor – played with incredible transparency by Caleb Landry Jones – goes through a harsh winter in a small Texas town, where his mission to help the homeless is faced with resistance by his congregation, exposing deep-seated prejudices. It’s a moving and powerful drama, inspired by real stories, at a time when homeless people are increasing around the world and Brunner’s film asks for solidarity and empathy for them. The film could not be more timely, because the effects of climate change really threaten thousands of homeless. The project has reunited the celebrity Caleb Landry Jones with Brunner (after “To the Night) and the producer Luc Besson (who directed him in “Dracula. A Love Tale” and “Dogman”).  I have met Caleb and Peter together with part of the cast: India Marie Cross, John P.W. Jones, Kip Lee Billups, Christopher Israel and Bart Guthrie. Peter Brunner tells Hastagch that: «what inspired me the most was when Caleb and I met the homeless people after we wrote the script».

About the homeless people that took part in the film, India Marie Cross adds: «As an actress I was very enlightened by their performance, even if they weren’t professional actors»; according to her, this film is «a humanitarian project».

Am 7. August 2026 feierte Ich ist ein anderer von Felix Randau seine Premiere auf der Piazza Grande in Locarno – jener grossen Freiluftbühne, die zu den bekanntesten Spielorten des Festivals zählt. Für Randau, der Regie führte und gemeinsam das Drehbuch schrieb, war es nicht der erste Auftritt am Festival: Bereits 2017 war er mit Der Mann aus dem Eis (Iceman) in Locarno zu Gast.

Am Tag nach der Premiere trafen wir den Regisseur zum Gespräch – über seine Erfahrungen mit dem Festival und über den Film selbst. Wer Felix Randau begegnet, trifft auf einen sympathischen und zugänglichen Regisseur: offen, nachdenklich und ganz bei der Sache. Man merkt ihm die Begeisterung für sein Handwerk in jedem Satz an. Randau erzählte mit spürbarer Freude von der Arbeit am Film. Die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Schauspielensemble habe er als herausragend erlebt – und überhaupt sei der Dreh erstaunlich zügig und unkompliziert verlaufen. 

Ich ist ein anderer verhandelt die reale, bis heute umstrittene Figur Felix Kerstens (gespielt von Claes Bang), Masseur und Vertrauter des SS-Chefs Heinrich Himmler (Martin Müller), der nach dem Krieg für sich beanspruchte, zahlreiche jüdische Häftlinge vor dem Tod bewahrt zu haben – eine Behauptung, die die Geschichtsschreibung nie eindeutig geklärt hat. Ihm gegenüber steht Hedda Wohmann, eine Journalistin aus der Fantasie des Regisseurs, gespielt von Valerie Pachner, die Kersten in einer einzigen Nacht 1952 in einem Nachtzug nach Oslo zur Rede stellt. Im Zentrum des Films steht so die Spannung zwischen den beiden: ein psychologisches Katz-und-Maus-Spiel zwischen einem Mann, der seine eigene Geschichte längst zur Legende geformt hat, und einer Frau, die genau diese Legende zum Einsturz bringen will. Mit der Figur Heddas identifiziert sich Randau nach eigener Aussage besonders. Für die Geschichte hat er sich intensiv mit dem historischen Stoff auseinandergesetzt, bevor er sich an die Ausarbeitung des Drehbuchs machte.

Besonders am Herzen liegen ihm die Fragen, die der Film seinem Publikum stellt: Was ist Wahrheit, und lässt sich das Böse wirklich sauber vom Guten trennen? Randau zeigte sich sichtlich zufrieden darüber, dass sein Film diese Ambivalenz nicht auflöst, sondern aushält – und damit zum Nachdenken einlädt, statt einfache Antworten zu liefern.

 Am 9. August 2025 wurde beim Locarno Film Festival eine echte Legende des Actionkinos geehrt: Jackie Chan erhielt den Preis Pardo alla carriera für sein Lebenswerk. Chan, geboren 1954 in Hongkong, gehört seit Jahrzehnten zu den bekanntesten Stars des internationalen Films. Schon als Kind stand er vor der Kamera, doch der große Durchbruch kam Ende der 1970er-Jahre mit Martial-Arts-Filmen, die Action und Humor auf eine völlig neue Weise kombinierten. Besonders beeindruckend ist, dass er viele seiner gefährlichen Stunts selbst ausführt. Später wurde er auch in Hollywood zum Star, etwa mit der erfolgreichen Filmreihe Rush Hour. Für viele Fans ist er bis heute eine Ikone des Action- und Komödienkinos.

Schon seine Ankunft auf dem roten Teppich war ein kleines Highlight. Jackie Chan erschien gut gelaunt und begrüßte die Fans mit seinem typischen Lächeln. Besonders süß: Er hatte zwei kleine Panda-Plüschtiere dabei, die sofort für Aufmerksamkeit sorgten. Während Fotografen ihre Kameras zückten und Fans ihm zujubelten, posierte er entspannt für Fotos und scherzte mit dem Publikum. Die Pandas machten den Moment noch sympathischer – irgendwie passte dieser verspielte Auftritt perfekt zu seiner offenen und humorvollen Persönlichkeit.

Am Abend wurde es dann feierlich auf der großen Bühne der Piazza Grande. Dort nahm Jackie Chan schließlich den „Pardo alla carriera“ entgegen. In seiner Dankesrede zeigte er sich sichtlich gerührt und bedankte sich herzlich beim Festival, seinem Team und natürlich bei den Fans, die ihn über all die Jahre unterstützt haben. Gleichzeitig blieb er ganz er selbst: warmherzig, bescheiden und mit einem kleinen Augenzwinkern. Es war einer dieser Momente, in denen man spürt, wie sehr das Publikum einen Künstler schätzt – und wie verdient diese Auszeichnung für eine so außergewöhnliche Karriere ist.

Maurizio Nichetti - Castellinaria 2025

Maurizio Nichetti ha ricevuto il prestigioso Castello d’Onore a Bellinzona durante la 38ª edizione di Castellinaria – Festival del cinema giovane, svoltasi dal 15 al 22 novembre 2025.

Il regista, attore e sceneggiatore milanese Maurizio Nichetti è stato celebrato come ospite d’onore del festival, ricevendo il Castello d’Onore per la sua lunga carriera e il contributo originale al cinema italiano. La cerimonia si è svolta sabato 22 novembre al Mercato Coperto di Giubiasco, cuore della manifestazione.

La 38ª edizione del festival ha portato a Bellinzona e Giubiasco oltre 70 film tra lungometraggi e cortometraggi, con 58 proiezioni e numerose anteprime svizzere e internazionali. Accanto alle sezioni tradizionali, è stata introdotta la nuova rassegna Castellindoc, dedicata ai documentari.

Il Castello d’Oro rappresenta uno dei riconoscimenti più significativi di Castellinaria, attribuito a figure che hanno saputo innovare e lasciare un segno nel panorama cinematografico. Con la sua filmografia ironica e surreale, Nichetti ha saputo raccontare la società italiana con uno sguardo unico, mescolando comicità e riflessione.

La consegna del premio a Nichetti ha sottolineato lo spirito di Castellinaria: un festival che unisce giovani, professionisti e pubblico in un dialogo culturale aperto e inclusivo.

 Il film Una figlia di Ivano De Matteo, scritto insieme a Valentina Ferlan, è stato presentato in prima svizzera al Festival Castellinaria 2025 di Bellinzona.

Una figlia racconta la storia di Pietro (Stefano Accorsi) e della giovane Sofia (Ginevra Francesconi), padre e figlia uniti da un legame profondo ma segnato dalla perdita della madre e da tensioni che mettono alla prova la loro capacità di crescere insieme.

Il film è tratto dal romanzo Qualunque cosa accada di Ciro Noja, adattato da De Matteo e Ferlan con grande sensibilità.

La narrazione esplora temi universali come il dolore, la responsabilità genitoriale, la colpa e la possibilità del perdono.

Al Festival del cinema giovane Castellinaria di Bellinzona, il film è stato presentato il 21 novembre 2025 in prima svizzera.

La rassegna ha sottolineato come l’opera si inserisca nel solco del cinema sociale e familiare di De Matteo, capace di affrontare con crudezza e rigore la fragilità dei rapporti e la durezza delle istituzioni.

 Valentina Ferlan, ha contribuito a dare al film una struttura narrativa incisiva, capace di alternare momenti di intimità familiare a tensioni drammatiche.

La sceneggiatura mette in luce il conflitto tra amore paterno e libertà individuale, trasformando la vicenda in un racconto universale che interroga ogni spettatore.

Con Zvanì - Il romanzo famigliare di Giovanni Pascoli, Giuseppe Piccioni sceglie di raccontare non tanto il poeta celebrato nei manuali scolastici, quanto l’uomo fragile e inquieto che si cela dietro i versi. Il titolo stesso, “Zvanì”, richiama l’appellativo dialettale con cui Pascoli era conosciuto in famiglia, sottolineando la dimensione domestica e affettiva che permea l’intera opera.

Il film si concentra sulla giovinezza di Pascoli, segnata da lutti, precarietà e un forte legame con le sorelle Mariù e Ida. Attraverso una narrazione che intreccia silenzi, sguardi e atmosfere sospese, Piccioni restituisce la complessità di un uomo che trovava nella poesia un rifugio e una forma di resistenza interiore

Il protagonista è Federico Cesari, che interpreta Giovanni Pascoli con sensibilità e misura, mentre Benedetta Porcaroli veste i panni di Mariù, la sorella che rimase accanto al poeta per tutta la vita. Accanto a loro, Liliana Bottone (Ida Pascoli) e Fausto Paravidino nel ruolo di Gabriele D’Annunzio, figura che incrocia il destino del poeta.

La sceneggiatura porta la firma di Sandro Petraglia, con la collaborazione di Lorenzo Bagnatori ed Eleonora Bordi, mentre la produzione è sostenuta da MeMo Films e Rai Fiction, con il contributo dell’Emilia-Romagna Film Commission.

Il film ha debuttato alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia 2025, nelle Giornate degli Autori, prima di approdare a Bellinzona per l’edizione di Castellinaria – Festival internazionale del cinema giovane. La scelta di presentarlo in un contesto dedicato ai giovani appare significativa: Pascoli stesso, con la sua poetica del “fanciullino”, incarna un’idea di purezza e di sguardo infantile sul mondo.

Piccioni evita l’agiografia e la biografia scolastica, preferendo un cinema di relazione che mette al centro i rapporti familiari, le inquietudini e la ricerca di senso. La fotografia di Michele D’Attanasio e le musiche di Michele Braga contribuiscono a creare un’atmosfera sospesa, dove la memoria e l’intimità diventano protagoniste 

Zvanì non è solo un film biografico, ma un viaggio emotivo dentro la fragilità e la forza di Giovanni Pascoli. Presentato a Castellinaria 2025, conferma la capacità di Giuseppe Piccioni di trasformare la vita di un poeta in un racconto universale, capace di parlare di famiglia, perdita e resilienza.

French producer and actor Floriane Andersen is set to make a notable appearance at the 78th Locarno Film Festival, supporting the international premiere of I Live Here Now, the latest feature from director Julie Pacino—daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Al Pacino. Andersen, who co-produced the film alongside Los Angeles-based Artak Pictures, will be present at Locarno to champion the project’s European debut. Her involvement marks a significant moment in her career, bridging her creative roots in France with a growing presence in the American independent film scene.

I Live Here Now is a haunting, visually rich exploration of identity and transformation, and has already begun to generate buzz for its bold storytelling and atmospheric direction. With Locarno’s reputation for celebrating auteur-driven cinema, the film’s inclusion in the lineup is a testament to its artistic ambition—and to Andersen’s discerning eye as a producer. Following Locarno, Andersen will continue her festival circuit journey with appearances at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, as well as Deauville and L’Étrange Festival in France. As Floriane Andersen steps further into the spotlight, we’re eager to delve deeper into her creative process, her experience working with Julie Pacino, and her vision for future projects. An interview with Andersen would offer a compelling look into the mind of a producer who’s helping shape the next wave of independent film.

HM: What drew you to co-produce I Live Here Now, and how did your collaboration with Artak Pictures and Julie Pacino come about?

FA: I was immediately drawn to I Live Here Now because of how deeply it resonated with me on a personal level. It’s a film about reclaiming your body, owning your past, and rediscovering your inner strength — themes that felt both universal and incredibly urgent. I had worked with Julie before and always admired her strong vision as a filmmaker, but also how collaborative and open she is in the creative process. At Artak Pictures, we’re very committed to supporting female voices and stories that push boundaries, so partnering on this project felt like a very natural fit.

HM: As both a producer and actor, how do you balance these roles creatively and professionally within a project like this one?

FA: It’s definitely a delicate balance, but one that I love. As an actor, my focus is on diving deeply into the inner life of the character, staying vulnerable, and living truthfully in the moment. As a producer, I have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture — making sure the director’s vision has the support it needs, and that everything comes together behind the scenes. What’s interesting is that the two roles actually feed each other: producing gives me a greater understanding of the full creative process, while acting keeps me grounded in why we’re telling the story in the first place.

HM: You’re attending several prestigious festivals including Locarno and Edinburgh. What are you most looking forward to sharing with audiences at these events?

FA: Festivals are such a special space because you get to see firsthand how audiences connect with the film. With I Live Here Now, I’m especially excited to share its intimacy and raw honesty — it’s not just a story, it’s an emotional journey. I’m looking forward to the conversations it sparks, particularly around identity, healing, and what it means to reclaim your voice as a woman. And of course, festivals are also about community, so I’m eager to connect with other filmmakers and audiences who are just as passionate about cinema.

HM: Can you tell us more about your upcoming plans, both as a producer and an actress, following the release of I Live Here Now?

FA: On the producing side, Artak Pictures is currently developing six features and a TV series, all of which continue our mission of spotlighting bold, diverse voices. On the acting side, I recently premiered Pas Vraiment Ordinaire at the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, and I’m attached as the female lead in two upcoming features that I’m very excited about. For me, this moment feels like the perfect intersection — I’m able to grow as both a storyteller behind the camera and a performer in front of it.
